You know about tarot cards, right?

What've you been living under a rock?! Of course you know about tarot cards.

But what you've probably been exposed to is a bunch of spiritual fuckery that presents as "witch-bitch Betty" parading about like she owns the afterlife and all its sordid residents, talking to "spirit" on YouTube while she tells you if/when you'll ever meet your "twin flame/soulmate/hokey-pokey-true love" but only AFTER you buy 3 love spells, 6 private readings, and at least 10 homemade candles that are really bulk-buys at a Dollar Tree but shhhhhhhh about all that or you'll spoil her profit margin.

Ahhh, witch-bitch Betty. Now where was I...

Ahh yes!

Tarot cards.

So here's the deal, dream boat:

Your mind - be it conscious or subconscious - is a swirl of instinctual reactions that can be registered as an electrical field. Hence why when you fall into a deep, utterly unresponsive coma, doctors may conclude that you're "brain dead" at a certain point because your brain is literally not producing the electrical stimulation that it typically would if you weren't in such a comatose state.

All that to say, your perception of the world around you is based on instinctual reactions to external stimuli, and the cognizant state of your mind, in turn, produces an electrical field that can be identified with a tool called an EEG (electroencephalography).

When people talk about changing their reality, what they mean is changing their perception of reality which in turn can create massive, tangible changes in the physical world.

How does that work?

How can a different mindset change our physical reality?

Well, to put it in simple terms, let's say you break both of your legs in a horrific accident.

And let's say that version #1 of you experiences those broken legs as the worst case scenario, thus, for every physical therapy session, every waking moment, every chance to interact with your conscious reality, your brain is perceiving negativity.

Now let's say that version #2 of you experiences those broken legs as best case scenario, thus, for every moment you're conscious, you're interacting with your reality in a positive way.

Version #1 may treat the hospital staff with disdain because, woe is version #1, where version #2 may treat the same staff with kindness because, hey, your broken legs ain't their fault.

Where version #1 ripples out negativity and, thus, receives it back in kind, version #2 radiates lightness and hope, thus, receiving that back in spades.

So, what does this have to do with your brain's electrical currents and, much less, tarot cards?

When we want to change the way we perceive reality, we have to do consistent mental exercises to alter our natural instincts, instincts that we began to develop from birth.

And tarot cards are just one way to see what your electrical field is resonating out into the ether.

Now, some readers will tell you that you're interacting with a higher power, and that may be the case. But for the sake of this post, let's not worry about the validity of all that.

Instead, I want you to take a second to see tarot cards as I do: not as a practice in spiritual communication (although, to be fair, I've done fucked around and found out many a time in that regard as well), but as a practice in subconscious psychological evaluation.

Consider them an opportunity to explore how your mind translates each message, rather than looking for them to be entirely accurate to your circumstances.

In this way, you can alleviate the need for "proof of concept," desperately hoping - or fearfully dreading - that the cards are doing that spiritual connectivity thing that so many of you may wish-upon-a-star that they'll do, and instead enjoy them for the exploration into your human experience for which they can be used.

Nowadays, there's more than just one deck for you to use to have fun exploring your psyche (back in the day, the traditional Rider-Waite  used to be the industry standard, followed by the German Bourgeois or the French Marseille).

From self-care to self-love, angel cards to devil decks, past life and archetypes to karma and spirit animals, there's a deck for every grain of weirdo in the jambalaya that is new-age spirituality.

And they all provide a fun layer of psychological adventure for you to explore: a) how you're currently perceiving your reality, b) how you approach messages that are laid out before you in a very synchronistic, albeit seemingly random, array, and c) how your mind naturally deduces meaning behind so many different ideas, images, colors, numbers, etc.

So before you write off tarot cards completely, or dive on in with the expectation that you can talk to great-aunt Dorothy whose been dead some 52 years now, take a reality check and accept the fact that they're just a deck of cards, there for your amusement - and addictive tendencies - like any other set of playing cards that you might use for poker or black jack.

Tarot cards aren't terrifying and they aren't the spiritual tool that'll solve all your life problems.

Keep it real, Betty: it doesn't matter how many spreads you do, you'll still need to work on that glow up in the tangible, physical world.
